Chapter 12 - JULIAN’S FINAL LEVERAGE

At 2:26 a.m., Julian requested a private meeting.

Margaret advised against it.

My father said the decision belonged to me.

I agreed on the condition that the meeting be recorded.

Julian waited in a small conference room without his jacket.

For the first time since I had met him, he looked ordinary.

No assistants.

No drivers.

No branded backdrop.

No title beneath his name.

Just a tired man with expensive shoes and nowhere to go.

I sat across from him.

“You have ten minutes.”

He pushed a folder toward me.

“I kept something in reserve.”

“Of course you did.”

“If you continue this, the company will suffer.”

“You mean you will suffer.”

“The two are connected.”

“Not anymore.”

He opened the folder.

Inside were letters of intent from three international investors.

Julian claimed they would withdraw from planned developments if he was removed.

Together, the projects represented billions in potential value.

“The relationships belong to me,” he said.

“The land belongs to us.”

“Without my contacts, nothing gets built.”

“Then nothing gets built.”

He stared at me.

“You would sacrifice that much?”

“I would rather delay three resorts than build them through blackmail.”

His confidence weakened.

He moved to his second threat.

He had prepared stories for the press.

According to those stories, my family had secretly controlled Aurelia while misleading lenders, employees, and regulators.

Margaret examined the documents.

“The ownership was disclosed wherever legally required.”

“Public perception does not care about technical compliance,” Julian said.

“You will look deceptive.”

I almost admired his consistency.

Even without power, he believed fear would work.

“Release it,” I said.

He blinked.

“What?”

“Release every document.”

“Elena.”

“Tell the world my family owns Aurelia.”

“That destroys the independent-founder story.”

“It was your story.”

“You benefited from it.”

“I was erased by it.”

His third lever was personal.

He placed photographs on the table.

They showed my father meeting with government officials, bankers, and foreign investors.

Julian suggested the meetings involved corruption.

My father studied the images.

“These were charitable-development negotiations.”

Julian smiled.

“Can you prove that before the headlines spread?”

My father reached for his phone.

“Yes.”

Within minutes, original meeting records, public filings, and participant statements were being prepared.

Julian’s smile disappeared.

He had collected shadows and mistaken them for secrets.

Finally, he leaned toward me.

“There is one thing you cannot survive.”

“What is that?”

“People will believe you trapped me.”

I looked at him in genuine confusion.

“You hid your fortune.”

“Yes.”

“You allowed me to build something I could never own.”

“You were offered a path to ownership.”

“Controlled by your family.”

“Protected from people exactly like you.”

His face hardened.

“You made me a guest in my own life.”

I rose.

“No, Julian.”

“You were invited into mine.”

I walked toward the door.

Behind me, his voice became desperate.

“I know about the original inn.”

I stopped.

May you like

Julian smiled.

His final leverage had not yet been revealed.
