Chapter 39

|

The aftermath of Malcolm's arrest was a chaotic whirlwind of flashing police lights, federal agents swarming the Ashford Tower, and a media frenzy that completely consumed the city. The undeniable evidence provided by Theodore's data dump, combined with the physical ledger of Protocol Omega, ensured that Malcolm would never see the outside of a maximum-security prison cell again.

As the sun began to rise over the city, painting the skyline in brilliant hues of gold and pink, Vivienne stood on the sidewalk outside the tower, wrapped in a warm shock blanket.

Richard walked over, looking exhausted but deeply relieved. He pulled his daughter into a tight, fierce embrace.

"It's over," Richard whispered into her hair. "He can never hurt you again."

"I know," Vivienne smiled softly, pulling back to look at her father. "But we still have a lot of rebuilding to do."

Leo and Julian stood a few feet away, awkwardly navigating their newfound brotherhood. Julian had surrendered his weapons to the federal agents and was currently cooperating fully with the District Attorney's office, eager to dismantle the remnants of the corrupt security apparatus he had blindly helped build.

"I don't know how to be a normal person," Julian admitted to Leo, his voice lacking its usual cold authority. "I only know how to be a soldier."

"We will figure it out," Leo promised, clapping a hand on Julian's shoulder. "We have the rest of our lives to learn."

A sleek, black SUV pulled up to the curb, bypassing the police barricades with ease. The rear door opened, and Grace Ellis stepped out, followed closely by Theodore, who was leaning on his cane.

Grace walked directly over to the three siblings, her eyes shining with absolute, profound pride.

"You did it," Grace said, looking at Vivienne, Leo, and Julian. "You fulfilled the promise we made in that basement twenty years ago. You survived, and you brought the monster down."

"We couldn't have done it without you," Vivienne replied, reaching out to hold Grace’s hands.

Theodore smiled, adjusting his coat. "The Ashford empire is officially in federal receivership. The board of directors has been indicted. It is a completely clean slate."

Just then, a figure stepped out from the shadows of a nearby alleyway. A woman wrapped in a heavy trench coat, her face obscured by the collar.
