Chapter 2

The sun broke through the clouds, casting a warm golden glow over the expansive gardens of the Cole Estate.

Located miles away from the cold glass and concrete of the city, the estate was a sprawling sanctuary of green lawns, ancient oak trees, and blooming rose bushes. It was a place of life.

Six months had passed since the boardroom coup.

Marcus Vance was sitting in a maximum-security prison, awaiting a trial he was guaranteed to lose. The board of Valeon Financial Group had successfully pivoted the company's direction, and the new East End Community Center was already halfway through construction.

Ethan Cole stood on the stone patio, holding a cup of coffee, watching the morning breeze rustle the leaves.

He wore a simple gray sweater and slacks. The rigid, terrifying billionaire CEO was gone. In his place stood a man who finally looked at peace.

He heard the soft crunch of gravel behind him.

Martha walked up holding a small gardening trowel. She wore a wide-brimmed sun hat and a comfortable floral dress. She looked healthy, vibrant, and incredibly happy.

She stopped beside him, looking out over the gardens.

“You should be at the office,” Martha teased gently, nudging his arm. “The CEO shouldn't be slacking off on a Tuesday.”

Ethan smiled, taking a sip of his coffee. “The CEO is taking a personal day. The company will survive without me for twenty-four hours.”

Martha leaned against the stone railing. She looked down at her hands. The deep burn scars were still there, rough and prominent. But she no longer wore gloves to hide them. She wore them proudly. They were badges of survival.

“I went by the construction site yesterday,” Martha said softly. “The framework for the new hospital wing is up. They want to name it after me.”

Ethan looked at her. “They should. You inspired it.”

Martha shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes, but this time, they were tears of profound joy.

“I just wanted to survive, Ethan. I just wanted to find you. I never imagined... all of this.”

Ethan set his coffee mug down. He stepped closer and wrapped his arms around his mother, pulling her into a tight, warm embrace.

Twenty-four years of pain, of searching empty hospitals, of feeling a hollow void in his chest—it was all finally gone. The cold marble floors of the financial tower had brought them back together, but this garden, this warmth, was their true home.

“We survived the fire, Mom,” Ethan whispered into her hair. “Both of us.”

Martha hugged him back fiercely, her scarred hands holding him tight.

“Yes, we did, my sweet boy,” she cried softly. “Yes, we did.”

High above the city, the Valeon Financial Tower still stood, gleaming in the sunlight. But it was no longer a monument to greed and power. It was a testament to redemption.

The young billionaire with a cold reputation had finally found his heart.
