Julian gently pushed his mother’s wheelchair down the carpeted hallway toward her ground-floor suite, with Clara walking alongside them. The afternoon sun filtered through the tall stained-glass windows, casting warm amber light across the family portraits lining the walls. Eleanor reached out, her cool hand lightly tapping Julian’s wrist until he stopped the chair near the window alcove.
