Chapter 18 - THE FALL OF ADRIAN CROSS

The screen displayed TRANSFER REVERSED.

Adrian fired at the computer.

The bullet shattered the monitor.

Charlotte ducked behind the desk.

Mason struck Adrian from the side.

The two men crashed against the glass wall.

A fracture spread across the window.

Eleanor freed herself with the broken chair leg.

She untied Mara and pulled Bianca behind the sofa.

Adrian struck Mason with the pistol.

Mason fell.

Adrian ran toward the private elevator.

Charlotte blocked the control panel.

“It is over.”

Adrian laughed.

“You still believe ownership means power.”

He grabbed her by the throat.

“The people downstairs watched Bianca drag you across the floor.”

His fingers tightened.

“Not one of them helped.”

Charlotte forced her hand between his wrist and her neck.

“They were afraid.”

“They were obedient.”

The penthouse doors opened behind him.

Nora, Elias, Daniel, and more than forty Solmere employees stood in the corridor.

Housekeepers held broom handles.

Kitchen workers carried metal trays.

Security guards stood beside bellmen, servers, and maintenance workers.

Nora stepped forward.

“We are not obedient anymore.”

Adrian released Charlotte.

He turned toward the cracked window.

Police helicopters hovered beyond the glass.

There was nowhere left to run.

He lifted the pistol toward Eleanor.

Bianca threw a silver vase across the room.

It struck Adrian’s arm.

The gun fired into the ceiling.

Mason rose and drove Adrian against the floor.

The employees surrounded him.

No one struck him.

No one needed to.

Adrian looked up and saw the same people he had threatened, underpaid, silenced, and controlled for years.

He finally understood that the hotel no longer feared him.

Police entered the penthouse.

Mason handed them Adrian’s weapon.

Mara recovered the metal box.

Bianca gave investigators the recording from her father’s private files.

It contained payments to Adrian, false loan agreements, and a conversation about Eleanor’s brake line.

At sunrise, Conrad and Roland were formally charged.

Conrad faced conspiracy, fraud, attempted destruction of evidence, and accessory charges connected to Eleanor’s crash.

Roland faced financial fraud and conspiracy.

Adrian faced attempted murder, kidnapping, arson, and theft.

Bianca was placed under investigation for assaulting Charlotte.

Charlotte visited her hospital room later that morning.

Bianca stared at the bandages around Charlotte’s wrists.

“I dragged you across your own hotel.”

“Yes.”

“I cannot undo that.”

“No.”

Bianca looked toward the window.

“Why did you tell the prosecutor I helped save everyone?”

“Because it was true.”

Bianca swallowed.

“Does that mean you forgive me?”

Charlotte stood.

“It means I will not become the kind of person who lies to punish someone.”

May you like

She walked toward the door.

“Forgiveness will take longer.”
