Chapter 4 - The Viral Inferno

By the time I woke up in my childhood bedroom at my father’s estate the next morning, my phone was melting down.

During the gala, several guests had been recording Arthur's speech. They had caught the entire altercation on video. The insults, my rebuttal, and the sickening sound of Julian slapping me. Worse for the Sterlings, someone had also recorded my father's grand entrance and their humiliating eviction.

The video was on every major news network and social media platform.

"STERLING EMPIRE CRUMBLES: HEIR STRIKES WIFE, LOSES BILLIONS IN SECONDS."

I sat in the kitchen, sipping coffee with my dad. "How bad is it?" I asked.

"Worse than they can comprehend," my dad smiled grimly. "Sterling stock plummeted sixty percent when the markets opened. Their board of directors is holding an emergency vote to oust Arthur. And Julian is trending worldwide as the biggest coward of the century."

My phone buzzed. It was a text from Eleanor. Clara, darling. Let's meet for lunch. We can clear up this silly family squabble before the press ruins us all.

I blocked her number and took another sip of coffee.
