Chapter 5 - Bellweather Home ServicesBellweather Home Services existed only on paper.

Grace had formed it under her maiden name and billed Evelyn for nursing, meal preparation, transportation, and physical therapy.

Most services were never provided.

Some payments funded Grace’s clothing, vacations, and a failed boutique she had concealed from Daniel. Others covered genuine household expenses, allowing her attorneys to argue that the records were merely disorganized.

Then investigators interviewed former employees.

The dismissed housekeeper described Grace hiding food and moving Evelyn’s call button beyond reach. A driver said Grace canceled medical appointments whenever doctors asked to speak with Evelyn alone.

A private aide admitted signing false attendance sheets because Grace threatened to report her immigration status.

The evidence showed more than theft.

Grace had reduced Evelyn’s independence so every necessity appeared to come through her.

Dependence made the forged deed look believable.

If Evelyn seemed confused, isolated, and incapable, few people would question why she surrendered her home to the woman supposedly caring for her.

Grace had not only stolen money.

She had been manufacturing helplessness.
