Chapter 6 - THE DOCTOR WHO SOLD MY SANITYDr. Samuel Rowe had treated me after Nathan pushed me down the staircase.

At the time, I believed he was simply dismissive.

He asked more questions about my marriage than my injuries.

He wrote that I appeared confused and emotionally agitated.

He recommended medication I had never requested.

Nathan later used that report whenever I challenged him.

“You are becoming unstable again,” he would say.

I had not understood that the report was part of a plan.

Federal agents reached Dr. Rowe’s house minutes after Nathan’s vehicle disappeared from the neighborhood.

The doctor was alive.

His home office had been searched.

A locked cabinet had been emptied.

Nathan had taken medical files and a computer drive before fleeing.

A camera across the street recorded his arrival.

It also captured his face clearly.

By midnight, prosecutors obtained a warrant for evidence tampering.

Nathan’s temporary freedom ended before dawn.

He was stopped at a private airport outside the city.

Inside his vehicle, agents found Dr. Rowe’s records, two passports, and more than two hundred thousand dollars in cash.

Nathan claimed he had been asked to transport the files.

No one believed him.

His attorney, Charles Wexler, appeared on television that morning.

He described the arrest as a misunderstanding.

He said Nathan was protecting confidential medical information from illegal seizure.

Then he turned his attention to me.

“Mrs. Ashford is being manipulated by her father,” Wexler told reporters.

“She has a documented history of emotional instability and resentment toward her husband’s success.”

Jordan switched off the television.

“He wants us to respond emotionally.”

“Then we respond with facts.”

I agreed to a recorded public statement.

My father wanted to stand beside me.

I asked him not to.

Nathan had spent years claiming I was powerless without Elias Vale.

I needed the world to see me speak for myself.

That afternoon, I sat before a single camera in Jordan’s office.

No dramatic music.

No expensive backdrop.

No Vale Dominion symbols.

I wore a simple dark suit with the sapphire pendant visible above the collar.

“My name is Madeline Vale Ashford,” I began.

“For several years, my husband and people working with him used my identity to authorize financial transactions without my consent.”

“They also created false medical records intended to remove my legal control over property that belonged to me.”

“I have provided evidence to federal investigators.”

“I will not discuss material under seal.”

“But I will say this.”

“I am not ashamed of surviving what was done to me.”

“I am not unstable because I refused to remain silent.”

“And I will not surrender my name to protect the reputation of a man who tried to steal it.”

The statement spread across every major network.

Former employees began contacting investigators.

A warehouse manager reported falsified shipping manifests.

An accountant described secret payments.

A port supervisor provided copies of messages from Martin Keene.

By evening, the board of Ashford Global terminated Nathan.

They also announced that Martin Keene had resigned.

Agent Sloan called immediately.

“Keene did not resign.”

“He disappeared.”

His home was empty.

His bank accounts had been drained.

A private aircraft registered to one of Celeste’s companies had left the country twelve hours earlier.

Investigators believed Martin was aboard.

Nathan had been captured.

But one of the men who knew every secret inside Ashford Global had escaped.

Then Hannah entered Jordan’s office carrying a folder.

“I know where he is going,” she said.

She opened a shipping map.

A red circle surrounded a small private port on the Adriatic coast.

“Martin built an archive there.”

“What kind of archive?” I asked.

May you like

Hannah met my eyes.

“The kind containing enough evidence to destroy your father too.”
