Chapter 7: The Man Who Never Died

Silence consumed the underground vault.

No one moved.

No one breathed.

The face on the monitor remained perfectly still, illuminated by the flickering emergency lights.

Alejandro felt as if the floor had disappeared beneath him.

His father.

Eduardo Castillo.

The man whose funeral he had attended twenty years earlier.

The man buried in the Castillo family mausoleum.

The man every history book described as one of the greatest business leaders of his generation.

Dead.

Or so everyone believed.

The older man's calm smile never wavered.

"You're wondering how a dead man can welcome his son."

Alejandro stepped closer to the monitor.

"You're not real."

The man chuckled softly.

"I expected you to say that."

"You always relied on evidence."

"Fortunately..."

"I've prepared some."

The screen changed.

A private home video appeared.

A seven-year-old Alejandro was riding a bicycle in the garden.

His father ran beside him.

When the little boy lost balance, Eduardo caught him before he fell.

The recording stopped.

Only three people had ever seen that video.

Alejandro.

His mother.

His father.

No copies had ever existed.

His voice became almost a whisper.

"...It's you."

The Truth About the Funeral

Eduardo folded his hands calmly.

"Yes."

"I allowed the world to believe I died."

Marcus stared at the screen.

"Why?"

"Because power is easier to build..."

"...when the world stops watching."

Eduardo's blue eyes shifted toward Elena.

"So."

"You survived."

Elena instinctively stepped behind Alejandro.

Eduardo smiled politely.

"I always admired your resilience."

Alejandro's fists clenched.

"You imprisoned my wife."

"No."

Eduardo corrected him.

"I gave the order."

"Vivian merely obeyed."

The words struck the room like a bomb.

Even Samuel staggered backward.

For decades...

The Castillo empire had been built around Eduardo's legacy.

Now that legacy had become a nightmare.

Project Mirror Was Never About Money

Eduardo stood and slowly walked across what appeared to be an elegant study.

Shelves of antique books lined the walls behind him.

"This was never about stealing companies."

"It was about preserving civilization."

Alejandro laughed bitterly.

"You call torture civilization?"

Eduardo remained perfectly calm.

"The world is unstable."

"Governments fail."

"Corporations collapse."

"Leaders die."

"My project ensures continuity."

Marcus couldn't hide his disgust.

"So you kidnapped innocent people..."

"...and replaced them."

Eduardo nodded without shame.

"Only when necessary."

Elena stared in disbelief.

"Necessary?"

Eduardo looked directly into her eyes.

"You discovered Project Mirror before it was ready."

"You forced my hand."

Samuel's Secret

Samuel suddenly dropped to one knee.

Alejandro turned in shock.

The old butler lowered his head.

"I'm sorry, sir."

Alejandro frowned.

"For what?"

Samuel's voice trembled.

"I worked for your father."

The room froze.

Marcus instinctively raised his weapon.

Samuel slowly lifted both hands.

"I never harmed Mrs. Castillo."

"I swear."

"But twenty years ago..."

"...I helped build this facility."

Alejandro couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"You knew?"

"I knew there were underground levels."

"I didn't know what they would become."

Tears filled Samuel's eyes.

"When I realized the truth..."

"I tried to destroy the blueprints."

"They killed my son."

Silence.

"My family has been prisoners ever since."

Alejandro slowly lowered Marcus's rifle.

Samuel wasn't confessing.

He was asking for forgiveness.

Vivian Makes Her Move

Far above the underground vault...

Vivian emerged from a hidden tunnel behind the western cliffs.

Rain poured relentlessly.

A black helicopter waited with its engines already running.

Two armed men opened the cabin door.

"Hurry."

She climbed aboard.

One of the men handed her a satellite phone.

"It failed."

Vivian said calmly.

"Elena remembered too much."

A familiar voice answered through the phone.

"I expected that."

Vivian smiled.

"I've delayed Alejandro."

"But he knows about you."

The voice laughed quietly.

"He was always meant to."

Vivian frowned.

"What?"

"I've waited twenty years for this meeting."

The call ended.

For the first time...

Vivian looked confused.

She wasn't in control anymore.

She was only another piece on the board.

The Hidden DNA Report

Back inside the vault...

Marcus's technician continued searching the archive.

"Sir."

"You need to see this."

He opened a folder marked:

CASTILLO SUCCESSION

Inside lay dozens of genetic reports.

Alejandro immediately recognized his own DNA profile.

Next to it...

Another name.

Lucas Castillo

Relationship:

Confirmed biological son.

Alejandro stared blankly.

"I don't have a son."

Marcus slowly scrolled down.

Age:

Twenty-four.

Current Status:

Active Replacement Candidate

Elena covered her mouth.

"Alejandro..."

"We never had children."

Marcus looked at the file again.

"It says biological."

Alejandro's thoughts raced.

Impossible.

Unless...

His father had been secretly conducting genetic experiments for decades.

Another page appeared.

Subject Origin:

Embryo Preservation Program

Year Created:

Twenty-four years ago.

Elena whispered,

"He cloned your bloodline..."

Samuel looked physically ill.

A Choice

Eduardo's image returned to every monitor.

"You've seen enough."

"I've prepared transportation."

"Come to me."

Alejandro's expression remained cold.

"So you can imprison me too?"

Eduardo smiled.

"No."

"So I can offer you your inheritance."

Marcus scoffed.

"Don't listen."

Eduardo ignored him.

"The empire you've managed..."

"...is only five percent of what truly belongs to the Castillo family."

He pressed a button.

The monitors displayed cities around the world.

London.

Singapore.

Dubai.

Zurich.

New York.

Tokyo.

Hidden facilities.

Secret laboratories.

Private armies.

Financial institutions.

Project Mirror wasn't confined to one mansion.

It was global.

Eduardo spoke quietly.

"I built an empire capable of surviving centuries."

Then he looked at Alejandro.

"And I built it for you."

Alejandro answered without hesitation.

"You built a prison."

"I'll destroy every piece of it."

Eduardo sighed.

"I hoped you'd say something else."

His expression changed for the first time.

Not anger.

Disappointment.

"Then I have no choice."

He reached toward something off-screen.

A countdown suddenly appeared on every monitor.

30:00

Marcus immediately understood.

"Explosives."

The timer began counting down.

29:59...

29:58...

Samuel turned pale.

"The charges aren't just beneath the prison..."

"They're beneath the entire mansion."

Eduardo's final words echoed through the vault.

"If Project Mirror cannot be inherited..."

"It will be buried."

The screens went black.

For one terrifying second...

Only the countdown remained glowing red on the control room wall.

29:47...

Alejandro looked at Marcus.

Marcus looked back.

Neither man needed to speak.

There were still forty-six prisoners underground.

Children.

Families.

Witnesses.

And only thirty minutes before Castillo Manor became their tomb.
