Mrs. Harrington admitted signing the certificate, but said she never saw Marcus’s body.
Charles told her Marcus died after falling from a service balcony and that immediate burial protected his family from scandal.
Leah’s voice tightened.
“My father’s death was treated like a housekeeping problem.”
The probate attorney produced hospital records showing Marcus arrived conscious and repeatedly asked for Leah.
His visitors were blocked by Harrington security.
Victoria accused Charles of murder.
Charles answered, “I moved Marcus before your grandfather could reach him.”
The patient discharged under Marcus’s name was taken to a private rehabilitation facility in Maine.
No death occurred there.
Leah stared at Charles.
“You buried an empty coffin and let me mourn because the truth was inconvenient.”
Charles said Marcus chose disappearance to protect the trust.
Leah refused the excuse.
“Protection without consent is another form of control.”
Then the attorney opened the latest facility record.
