Victoria denied ever being part of the children’s trust.
Marcus produced a birth ledger showing she had been registered under her mother’s maiden name to conceal that a Harrington child was receiving worker-funded benefits.
Victoria’s private tutors, first apartment and jewelry allowance had all been paid from the alliance.
“You mocked residents for living in subsidized housing,” Leah said, “while their wages financed your entire adulthood.”
Victoria’s face hardened.
“I did not know.”
An elderly resident answered, “We were told ignorance never excused missing rent.”
The council demanded repayment but refused to make Victoria the only symbol of a system designed by adults around her.
Mrs. Harrington admitted she knew about the education payments and allowed them because her husband threatened to remove Ethan and Victoria from her custody.
Leah replied, “You protected two wealthy children by spending what belonged to twelve working-class children.”
Then the ledger revealed one beneficiary had received no money because the trust marked her as deceased.
