Margaret Sloan had served the Harrington family for thirty-four years, first as a housekeeper and later as Mrs. Harrington’s assistant.
She said Marcus asked her to keep him hidden until the resident trust could defeat the sale.
Leah faced her.
“You were a worker. You knew what it meant to have rich people decide your life.”
Margaret’s eyes filled.
“I believed one secret could protect hundreds of homes.”
Residents watching remotely rejected that defense.
An elderly cook said, “You protected our buildings while denying us the truth needed to govern them.”
Margaret surrendered every file and resigned from the trust committee.
Her records showed Victoria planned the sale, but Charles secretly encouraged it so hidden ownership claims would surface during litigation.
Mrs. Harrington looked at him.
“You placed residents at the edge of eviction to force a legal fight.”
Charles answered, “The courts ignored quiet evidence.”
Leah replied, “Then you made poor people risk homelessness so powerful institutions would listen.”
Margaret opened one final email from Marcus.
